Student Living at the University of Tasmania

A great way to experience university life is to live in a supported student community.

Beanies and Mittens

Having trouble adjusting to the chilly Tasmanian winter? Or you simply want to mingle and linger with new and continuing students before you start the semester? Beanies and Mittens night at Student Living offer residents a warming opportunity to meet other students, staff and other members of the UTAS community.

The event is one of the many opportunities to experience life on accommodation campus. Everybody enjoys a free meal of hot soup and bread, while immersing in live music and socialising with others. Beanies and Mittens is a unique night on the Student Living calendar where residents and guests brave the freezing Tasmanian winter with the warmth of the student community.

Student Living Community Cup

In the battle between North and South, residents from the Launceston and Hobart campuses clash in fierce yet friendly competition of basketball, futsal, netball and dodgeball to earn bragging rights. It is a fun-filled day not to be missed!

Well done to the Launceston team for taking out basketball and netball this year to bring home the Community Cup in 2016! It was a close contest with John Fisher College, where both teams brought on their competitive spirit!

Stay tuned as we wait look forward to more action in 2017!

Rezfit 30

A state-wide 30-day health and fitness challenge program was introduced, which aimed at engaging resident participation through the use of social media. Essentially, it is one-month course designed to teach students the basics of physical training, nutrition, and the importance of a leading healthy lifestyle while studying.

The program is catered for all residents of varying levels, especially those who are unsure of where to start. It is for those who think that fitness is complicated or intimidating. RezFIT 30 is fitness made simple: one day at a time, and one challenge at a time!

NRAS Accommodation

UTAS is part of the National Rental Affordability Scheme (NRAS) to provide affordable living for students who meet their requirements. We offer accommodation under NRAS at Inveresk, West Park and Newnham in the north of the state, and most recently we have added, the Hobart Apartments in the heart of the capital city, on Elizabeth Street. .

The Inveresk NRAS project is being assessed for a Green Building Council of Australia, Green Star rating. Designed to foster a community feel and situated on a major transport corridor close to the amenities of the Launceston CBD, the facility is also socially sustainable. Studies show that this is likely to result in well-connected and well-settled students who are more likely to perform well, both socially and academically.
