2012 Summer SeasonCasual accommodation demand heats up over the summer season.
John Fisher Alumni Reunion100 John Fisher Alumni attended the biennial Fisher reunion held at Pepperz Restaurant on Accommodation Campus.
Open Day 2012Open Day was again highly successful on Accommodation Campus.
Colourfest 2012UTAS Accommodation Services, in partnership with CFNP and UTAS Marketing, is proud to bring the inaugural Colourfest Film Festival to Tasmania.
Mooncake FestivalAccommodation Services enjoyed a gentle Mooncake Festival at Pepperz Cafe Bar Restaurant.
Tutorial ProgramAccommodation Services' Tutorial Program is now up and running for Semester 2. Tutors and students can sign up on line www.accommodation.utas.edu.au/current/tutorial-and-pastoral-program
Please be advised that Semester 2 tutors will only be able to offer tutorials for 2 or more students per tutorial.
John Fisher College 'Winter Wonderland' BallJohn Fisher Student Club held their annual Vatican Ball at Elizabeth St Pier on Friday 3 August.
'Switch Off' Energy ChallengeAccommodation Services Adminstrative Teams North and South are participating in a 'Switch Off' Programme, created by UTAS Sustainability team aimed at reducing electricty waste. Residents will also take part statewide.
Semester 2 'O Week'Sandy Bay Accommodation Campus welcoming events included BBQs, sporting events and Christ College Student Club fancy dress 'Disney' party.
Beanies and MittensAll about warmth and fun, and nothing to do with planning sensible events during winter, our 3rd annual Beanies and Mittens event went off without a hitch.
Cooking ClassesCommunity Friends and Networks Program in conjunction with Accommodation Services offered fortnightly Cooking Classes for students and residents within the Demonstration Kitchen, kindly provided at no cost from Faculty of Education over the course of Semester 1. The Project offered the opportunity to meet students from different faculties and different countries, people they may not have otherwise met. Along with cooking, students showed an enthusiasm to share with others their food and customs from their home.
Sunday Social Club including Craft and ConversationThe Sunday Social (and Coffee) Club once again proved to be a popular pastime throughout semester with many regulars attending to enjoy a cup of coffee, a light snack, conversation and games - Skipbo and Frogs proving to be very popular!
Study SuppersAccommodation Services hosted its traditional study suppers during Study Week, running from 4 - 8 June.
There was a good turnout at each location and as the week wore on and the exams loomed closer the need for hot chocolate and cake had residents filing out of their rooms to grab a snack and revive their minds.
NRAS Apartments at NewnhamThe first stage of the University's National Rental Affordability Scheme (NRAS) is to be located on Newnham Campus. The site adjoins existing accommodation at Investigator Hall. The proposed accommodation, to be designed by local architects Morrrison and Breytenbach will be built to the sun and the views and will provide supportive living, learning and social spaces for UTAS students.
University Apartments LogoThe University Apartments (UA) have a logo! the UA student club held a competition on their facebook page, with all UA residents voting and commenting on the submissions. The winning logo was designed by resident Mahmood Al Sarraf.
Pepperz LiveEveryone loves music and nothing can beat toe tapping, spine tingling live and living music! Friday night is the perfect time to forget about the tough stuff and just relax and enjoy the energy of live music. Talent in the form of Conservatorium Singer Songwriter Program Candidates Merrylees and Ryan Kay was appreciated by a dedicated and enthusiastic audience during the Friday night Pepperz Live event.
Biggest Morning TeaPepperz Cafe Bar Restaurant tapped into the Biggest Morning Tea fundraiser, an annual event on the Cancer Council calendar. Site Manager Trevor Donaghy and Cafe Manager Brent Leonard instigated the event, creating their own version of a 'rolling' morning tea that continued throughout the morning and was open to everyone.
Foodo BingoLaunceston held its annual Foodo Bingo Extravaganza at Saltz Cafe Restaurant on Wednesday 23 May - 80 residents packed the venue in an attempt to win sought after grocery items, as usual the good coffee, chocolates and soft toilet paper were amongst the first items claimed by the enthusiastic game players. Master of Ceremonies - Graham Lillywhite added some new twists to the traditional bingo calls and although cries of 'two little ducks' and 'legs eleven' still echoed through the halls a number of new sayings were born that night.
Heroes and Villains BallAccommodation Services held their annual Ball with this year's theme being 'Heroes and Villains'. Over 100 residents enjoyed an evening of music, food, dancing and alter egos at Saltz Cafe restaurant followed by brunch the following morning.
Relay for Life FundraiserAccommodation Services participated in the annual Cancer Council Relay for Life Event. The relay is an overnight, community event to raise awareness and funds to fight cancer.
Earth HourGreat support for the international Earth Hour event was received from UTAS students on Newnham campus. Accommodation Services residents, domestic and international students, and community members joined together to participate in the event.
Earth HourThis year’s Earth Hour saw Accommodation Services and Sustainability Team partnering up again to promote action on climate change. Funded as a UTAS Energy Management initiative, the well attended event was predominately run by volunteers from the Christ College Student Club.
Stay on Rez weekendA huge weekend of fun and activities, Stay on Rez is a ‘not to be missed’ date on the Accommodation Services’ annual calendar. The Harmony Day celebrations of the Friday 23 March kicked off the weekend. Other events included sporting activities, themed (Say Goodbye to Summer) social barbeque, recovery breakfast, ending with the ever popular Iron Guts Challenge at Saltz on the Sunday evening. Harmony DayUTAS Harmony Day 2012 was a resounding success. Accommodation Services joined forces with the rest of UTAS in the Harmony Day cultural celebrations on Friday 23 March.

The newly formed University Apartments Student Club has created a free Coffee Club. The weekly initiative, every Tuesday from 8.00pm until 9.00pm, is an informal social opportunity for residents of the University Apartments and friends. All Welcome!
Students of the Conservatorium of Music now have a newly refurbished music room dedicated to their music practice while they live on accommodation campus

Orientation Week is often the first opportunity for first year residents to get together as a group to introduce themselves, network and bond with other residents, without the pressures of academic performance. It also allows new residents to settle into the Colleges, before returning residents arrive on accommodation campus for the 2012 academic year. Pictures of the event and more.

New and returning residents arrive back on Accommodation campus for semester I. Newnham campus residents at Leprena, Kerslake and Investigator Hall enjoyed the traditional friendly welcome.

The Water Dragon lived up to its name. Defying the positive weather forecast, the finest of drizzle continued throughout the morning, limiting planned activities and performances to inside the Derwent Sailing Squadron clubrooms, but providing perfect weather for Dragon Boating racing! Dragon boats paddled through the mist that clung to the river, on mirror water, providing a hauntingly beautiful atmosphere for volunteer and guest paddlers. Pictures of the event and more.
