Thank you EventAccommodation Services hosted a 'Thank you for your support during 2010' event, held 7 December at Pepperz Cafe Restaurant Bar in the south of the state, and on 8 December at Saltz Cafe' Restaurant in the north.
Foodo BingoThe inaugural Hobart Foodo Bingo event took place at Pepperz Cafe Bar Restaurant on Wednesday, 15 December.
Christ College Photographs Restoration ProjectThis project was initiated, implemented and funded by Accommodation Services. The photographs consist of Christ College resident groups dating back from 1929 through to 2002. The photos have been digitally scanned, and their frames and matt boards repaired. A new, anti tamper hanging system has been designed and installed for the photo gallery within the Christ College Buttery. This project was completed in December 2010.
Food Collection for Launceston City MissionSeveral hundreds of dollars worth of food items was donated to the Launceston City Mission by Accommodation Services residents, as residents left accommodation at the end of second semester.
My UniversityAccommodation Services' resident Jason Lee was selected to showcase his life at UTAS as an international student 'in residence' at Accommodation Services.
John Fisher College AlumniJohn Fisher College Alumni held a fundraiser wine auction on 24 November.
Foodo BingoA residential favourite - the Accommodation Services version of Bingo where individuals compete for grocery and novelty items in the ultimate Bingo Challenge.
Around the World Food WeekAccommodation Services and Saltz Cafe' Restaurant extended International Food Day into a weeklong celebration of international cuisine.
Upgrade of Common RoomsThe recreational area in Leprena and the common rooms in H Block and P Block in Kerslake were upgraded for the enjoyment and comfort of residents. The upgrades included new carpet, couches, and the addition of computer benches as study areas. The work was completed in September 2010, with plans for bedrooms to be upgraded in 2011.
Chinese Mooncake FestivalOn the day of the Mooncake Festival hosted at Pepperz Cafe Bar Restaurant on the Accommodation Services Campus at UTAS, the full moon rose at 5.10pm. Up to 100 people celebrated beneath the cheeky hide and seek games of Chang-e, the woman on the moon from Chinese folklore who has been tragically separated for eternity from her mate Hou Yi.
Black and White Gala Ball + 'Stay on Rez' WeekendLaunceston Accommodation Services hosted a massive weekend (17-19 September) of residential activities on Newnham campus.
Malaysian ' Merdeka' CelebrationAccommodation Services' residents conceived, planned and executed a fantastic cultural event: the Malaysian 'Merdeka' Celebration. Held on-site at Accommodation Services on 31 August, the evening celebrated Malaysia's 53rd year of Independence and featured all things Malaysian, from light-hearted music and entertainment to seriously delicious food.
16th Annual Wrest Point Economics ChallengeRun by the School of Economics and Finance, the Wrest Point Economics Challenge is an opportunity for year 11 and 12 students to visit the University campus and taste the world of economics.
Additional 14 new bedrooms for John Fisher CollegeUpgrades to John Fisher College continues, and include the external painting of John Fisher College completed in August 2010, and a new suite of bedrooms on 'A' Floor of John Fisher College completed in January 2010.
Open Day 2010Accommodation Services joined UTAS faculties in opening our doors to the public.
Beanies and Mittens Event was held at Accommodation Services on Sunday 18 July 2010 4:00pm - 7:30pm and was an undisputed success. Both Accommodation Services residents and guests enjoyed conversation, conviviality and meeting new people, achieving a real sense of what community friendship and networking means.
IT Services extended to Pepperz Cafe' Bar RestaurantFrom June 2010, Pepperz Cafe' Bar Restaurant guests can benefit from wireless internet connection. In keeping with Accommodation Services' commitment to provide a stimulating and supportive environment, Pepperz provides a communal space for residents to live, socialist, study or relax.
Introduction of Awareness ProgramsLaunceston accommodation campus instigated a series of awareness programs, designed to acquire the necessary tools to combat increasingly common conditions such as stress, depression, or drug and alcohol related issues.
Caffeine Lovers ClubSo successful during the first semester, that the club was expanded out to run during second semester. Residents are required to sign up at Administration with the venue being Saltz Cafe' Restaurant.
Speed SocialisingSpeed socialising is a regular entry on the Launceston calander and is much enjoyed by the resident population. Held at Saltz Cafe' Restaurant it is best described as a round-robin rendezvous and is the ultimate social occasion. Needless to say, it is the source of instant fun and friendships.
Launch of SaltzThe Deputy Chancellor, Mr Rod Roberts, formally launched Saltz Cafe' Restaurant during a recent 'Staff meet the University Council' cocktail party at Newnham. The event was one of a regular series held on each of the UTAS campuses to provide opportunities for UTAS staff and students to meet and talk with Council members.
World Environment DayWorld Environment Day 2010 was celebrated on UTAS accommodation campus on Saturday evening, 5th June. The event was rained out from its original outdoor venue, and the band and participants headed indoors to Pepperz Cafe' Restaurant for a warmer atmosphere.
Brazilian Drum TroupeAs part of the Entrepreneurship module of the School of Management, students created, planned and implemented a fundraising event, using Accommodation Services' facilities.
Agfest 2010Held on 3 May 2010, Agfest was attended by UTAS faculties, student support services and Accommodation Services. This annual event is always a favourite with the school groups, in search of activity and entertainment, and looking for the BEST show bag.
Earth HourAMS Sustainability Team, Accommodation Services, TUU and Pepperz Cafe' Bar Restaurant joined forces to provide free food, candlelight and live entertainment for Earth Hour 2010.
Opening of Refurbished Christ College ButteryThe opening of the refurbished Christ College Buttery was attended by His Excellency the Governor of Tasmania Peter Underwood AC and Mrs Underwood.
Crud WarLaunceston residents joined forces in the biggest outdoor food fight ever staged to date.
Off-Campus HousingIn 2010 the University of Tasmania introduced additional choices in housing for its students and staff - Accommodation Services' Off-Campus Housing.
Off-Campus Housing is residential accommodation for UTAS students and staff provided through private rentals.
Accommodation Services Reaches for the StarsUTAS Accommodation Services has been assessed for the 2010 year under the AAA Tourism star rating scheme.
